Hot Yoga

Hot Yoga is famous for its incredible healing ability. It is a very specific series of 24 yoga postures and two breathing exercises taught in 40C (105F) heat. The heat provides a safe environment in which to work through resistance in the body, helping to reduce the risk of injury – it also increases blood flow and perspiration leading to improved respiration and greater detoxification. Each posture is done in a specific order, systematically preparing the body for the next posture, resulting in powerful and positive health benefits. The sequence is designed for beginners as well as those students who have a regular practice.

The Body Bliss hot 26 practice is informed by the teachings of Hatha and hot yoga methods, and the 8 limbs of yoga are implicitly woven into the fabric of the classes. It incorporates intelligent alignment and timing principles and a light-hearted approach while maintaining the intensity and transformational qualities of traditional hot methods.

This course will cover:

  • Contraindications to the heat.
  • The alignment principles for the 26 postures.
  • The principles of sequencing, and the theory behind the Body Bliss Hot series.
  • Best practices for verbal cueing and spoken adjustments.
  • How to modify the sequence and offer variations of set poses, to safely introduce variety.
  • Practice teaching sessions and personal feedback to improve your skills.

Pilates Small Equipment

With David Slade

Pilates Small Equipment In Leigh-on-Sea, Essex
  • 6 Hours
  • £100

Pre-requisite

This 1-day course is part of Body Bliss continuing professional development programme and is only suitable for Pilates teachers and teachers in training. You will need to have completed an initial teacher training, or currently be in training as a Pilates teacher to be eligible to book onto this course.

Body Bliss Training

This short course will be focused on three pieces of small Pilates equipment, the fitness circle (sometimes known as the magic ring), the min-stability ball and flex bands (which are available under a wide variety of brand names).

This will give participants the opportunity to see how these three pieces of equipment, which are all relatively light, portable and of reasonable cost, can be used to add variation and development to the traditional Pilates mat work exercises. By adding either additional resistance or providing support they can both intensify exercises or make them accessible to participants who may have physical restrictions.

It will also incorporate exercises from other parts of the Pilates repertoire, showing how the equipment can be used to bring exercises from the barrels, reformer, Cadillac and stability chair into mat work classes. David is fully qualified with Stott Pilates and has a background in professional dance.

Resistance bands (stretch bands) are one of the simplest and most effective accessories available to a Pilates teacher. They can be used to increase or decrease the challenge of many familiar exercises from the Pilates mat work repertoire. They give greater opportunity to work with closed-chain movements, which can provide increased support and feedback as well as being used to increase physical load.

The use of bands therefore provides increased levels of progression for clients, as well as expanding movement possibilities. The result is an expansive repertoire of highly effective exercises that will facilitate more effective progression within clients and keep them challenged and inspired.

The Magic ring and mini stability balls can be used to add physical challenge and provide support and feedback, as well as facilitating many familiar Pilates exercises by helping the client focus on recruiting key stabilising muscles more effectively. This often makes the exercise feel more physically challenging but, conversely, easier to perform. One of the most important benefits of their application is to focus the client on the connection to the Pilates ‘powerhouse’ - or centre - making them an invaluable aid in enabling clients to understand and tune into this important concept.
